a M.I.A. Product Service System for 2037

"Inspired by the appeasing sound of leaves rustling in the wind, we’ve opted for a simple leaf shape for our acoustic panels. Similar to the mimosa leaf movement, our acoustic panels open and close in reaction to the sound level of a space, allowing for a control of the sound to create adaptable learning environments. As students fill the classroom, the ceiling gradually becomes covered with our vegetation-inspired panels, which open up to reveal their inner material. |blu:m| panels bring awareness to the sound level through their shapeshift, as they deploy over the ceiling area of a busy classroom.

The acoustic panels are composed of different density polyester which absorbs different frequencies to create acoustically balanced spaces in which the human voice travels perfectly. When open, their surface area doubles allowing the sound-absorbing material to reduce the echo of a room, enabling students to work and discuss as a group without the overall sound level becoming distracting or overbearing. When closed, they allow for greater reverberation of sound in a space, improving the acoustics for lectures or presentations, when a speaker has to be heard throughout the classroom. With both automatic and manual modes, our service guarantees flexible and adaptable soundscapes for classrooms, with tailored layouts of the panels in function of a space and its properties."
